why?
I already have a reel. Why do I need a SpeedReel?
A SpeedReel doesn't replace your demo reel, it simply gives you a cheaper, easier and faster way to pitch your talents to agents and managers. Look at it this way, why does a studio make a trailer to a film? They have a film, why not just put it in the theater? Because before you'll take time out of your busy day to watch their film they need to quickly show you why it won't be a waste of time.
Why won't agents look at my demo reel if I send it to them on VHS or DVD?
They might. But for every one tape they look at about 20 others are never even opened. It comes down to time and effort. Imagine you're a busy agent, juggling the career of 20+ actors/actresses, and 10 unknown actors come to your office a day and say, "Can I have 20 minutes of your time to tell you how swell I am and why you should rep me?" Answer: "No." Now imagine if instead they sent you a link to a website (most agents have computers on their desk with web access) and asked for only 60 SECONDS of your time. Even busy agents have 60 seconds to satisfy their curiosity. They can look at all 10 actors in the time it use to take them to watch one.
My reel is only 4 minutes long. I don't need 20 minutes of their time.
How do they know it's only 4 minutes or even 3 minutes long? Also, did you forget he/she has to open your package, take it to a VCR, put it in the VCR, grab the remote, press play, watch, eject the tape, and either call you or grab the tape, box/wrap it came in and throw it away. Believe us, to an agent that process seems even longer than 20 minutes.
Why shouldn't I just send a headshot? Because casting directors and agents want to see more than just a picture. They want to know you can act. With a SpeedReel they'll be able to see for themselves in about the same time it would take them to open the envelope and look at your picture.
