Step One:
DECIDE WHICH PACKAGE BEST SUITS YOUR NEEDS
We offer many different options for putting yourself on tape-ranging from a simple monologue to a Two Person edited scene. You may need multiple scenes to create a reel from scratch or just one scene to add to your existing work.
Step Two:
CHOOSE THE MATERIAL THAT WILL SHOWCASE YOUR MOST "CASTABLE TYPE"
100% of all roles are cast by "type." Know what yours is and then find a piece of material that will best showcase you as THAT type. Are you the "Gritty Cop", the "Young Mom," the "Bad Girl," the "Best Friend," etc, etc. A good way to help determine this is to look at your headshot. How does that portray you?
Once you know your type, find the material which will showcase you playing that type. Thankfully, there are many great resources on the web where you can find monologues and script. A lot of our clients also spend a weekend renting movies or TV shows with characters playing their type. Keep in mind, your piece is more than just the dialogue you say. It's the look and feel and whether or not your look supports the type.
This should go without saying, but we'll say it anyhow. Whether you're doing a One Person Scene or a Two Person Scene...make sure the piece features YOU. This is your tape, your moment, so make sure you're getting the most out of it.
If you have tried to determine your type and are having no luck, you can schedule a consultation meeting with one of our directors who will work with you to establish your type and also help you find great material. Please give our office a call to set up an appointment: 323-931-1712
The most important thing to keep in mind is that you don't need a lot of material-only a minute's worth. If you want to shoot a little more than a minute, that's fine. Just keep in mind that if you plan to put it on SpeedReels or Actors Access the final piece can be no longer than 60 seconds.
Step Three:
EMAIL US THE SCENE(S) YOU WANT TO DO
So you found the perfect piece to showcase your type. That's great! The next step is to type it out and send it as a Word or PDF document to myscene@speedreels.com.
Also include a brief description of where it takes place, time of day, etc. Click here for an example of what it should look like. And finally, let us know which days/times are best for you so that we can view our calendar and schedule a time that works. Someone from our office will contact you with possible times and dates.
You're now basically home free. All that's left is putting your scene on tape and getting it out for the world to see.
